The Plan

We will ride from the U.S. to Ushuaia, Argentina but unlike most overland trips we will do it in three different legs over three years. Since we both work full time this will allow us to maximize our time off and have plenty of time to plan an awesome route. The first leg is from the U.S. to Costa Rica, the second will take us to Peru, and the final leg will get us to Ushuaia, Argentina. The goal is to write the details up and make it easily accessible for others who like us, are unable to take three plus months off from work. On this site you will find all the information needed to help you navigate the bureaucracy to complete the trip yourselves. With a little patience, and dedication this can easily be done! Click here for our 2016 route and here for our 2017 route on google maps.

Where are Dom and T.J.?

On the trip, we will be carrying a Delorme inReach SE device. This is a personal locator beacon that will show our position every 10 minutes, allow us to send and receive text messages as well as send an SOS if absolutely necessary. Follow us here!

Our Story: We were roommates in 2007 our freshman year in college and have been friends ever since. Back then we had pipe dreams of buying Harley's from the factory and riding them down old Route 66 to California. As if those dreams were not far fetched enough, we are now planning to ride to Ushuaia, Argentina.

Dominic 'Dom' Metcalf

For as long as I can remember, I've lived life on two wheels. Before I even took my first steps, I was riding on my dad's 1990 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail. I grew up around family and friends who had bikes, and by the time I got to college, I purchased my first motorcycle: a 1993 Suzuki GS500. Since then, I've had a few different motorcycles, and for this trip, T.J. and I will be riding BMW F650GS Dakars. This will be the longest trip I've ever taken on a bike by far and I'm sure it's going to be quite an adventure.

I am a PhD graduate student studying past climates using tree-rings. I hope to be a professor in the near future. My first motorcycle was a red 1977 Honda Elsinore MR-175, given to me by my aunt I still have it and made it street legal in 2008. Since then I've ridden a Suzuki GS500, Honda Shadow, and now I am riding my '06 BMW F650GS Dakar which will soon see a lot more miles. Motorcycling is in my blood, my grandfather and grandmother rode, and grandma rode a Harley all through my formative years, my dad also rides and may join us on the trip. I think I really caught the bug when I lived in AZ and helped teach motorcycle safety classes and worked in a bike shop.
